Instead of negotiating an unrealistic peace in Ukraine, it is imperative that we take a more proactive approach to prevent further escalation with Russia.

An escalation has different phases, and the war in Ukraine is not yet the end of the escalation. Russia is arming itself to launch a new wave of attacks in Ukraine. The Republic of Moldova will probably be a target; the Baltic states are preparing for an attack by Russia.

A peace conference was held in Switzerland last week. I think the title “Summit on Peace in Ukraine” was wrongly chosen. A peace treaty is not possible, and the final document, “Joint Communiqué,” was disappointing.

The title “De-Escalation Now” would have been better and would have received broader support.

In my view, Putin will escalate even further, and this escalation must be stopped.
